What inspired you to create a gummy vitamin for kids?

It started with a conversation among parents, entrepreneurs, and health care practitioners in which we shared our collective frustrations. Why did proper nutrition for our kids have to be so hard? Searching high and low, none of us could find a vitamin for kids that was high-quality, affordable, edible and covered all the nutritional bases in one serving. So we decided to make one ourselves.

Do kids really need to take vitamins? Can’t the proper amount of vitamins be attained via good eating?

Vitamins are not a magic bullet, but they are helpful to fill in the gaps when your child is not always able to eat a balanced meal. (How often do we know what they ate at school? Or measure that they get 10 minutes of daily sunshine? Or get them to eat fish three times per week?) We view our SmartyPants gummies as an insurance policy that guarantees our children’s bodies will not be deficient in the nutrients they need to thrive.

What’s the main difference between SmartyPants and all the other gummy vitamins available on drug store shelves?

The main difference is that we are the only all-in-one “multi + omega + vitamin D” gummy on the market. This makes it easier and more affordable to make sure your kids get the nutrients toughest to get from foods in the right amounts. In addition, we focus on the quality of the nutrients, using the most bio-available form wherever we can.

How did you create a gummy vitamin? Did you have to study pharmacology, nutrition or diet in order to do it?

Our co-founders were seeing a common problem: How to get kids their necessary daily nutrients without all the expense and worry? All parents know the obstacles that stand in their way no matter how committed or how good their intentions: picky eaters, school lunches, little time, constrained budgets, veggies and fruits grown in less nutrient dense soil, and overwhelming choice. One of our co-founders, Drew Francis, is a long time health care practitioner in Los Angeles; he created the original formula and had many leading pediatricians review the product.

We started this journey looking for a solution for the kids in our lives but the more we learned, the more frustrated we grew on behalf of all parents. High Fructose Corn Syrup? Blue # 5? Aspartame? Artificial sweeteners that have been linked to headaches, nerve damage and even seizures. Not exactly what you are looking for from your daily vitamin! We started buying separate vitamins, minerals and fish oils that we agreed belonged in our children, but the cost was outrageous.

We took the best vitamins in the right forms and proportions for growing bodies, we took the best minerals and we took non-toxic fish oil derived from eco-friendly and sustainably harvested small fish — and we combined them into one delicious gummy vitamin.

What made you decide to make gummy vitamins for adults too?

After creating our all-in-one gummy vitamins for kids, we were inundated with requests from adults asking, “Can we take SmartyPants too?”  And so SmartyPants Gummy Vitamins for Grown Ups were born!
