We suggest this in particular for the elderly, anyone in apartments or college kids who don't want to carry big heavy bottles of detergent up and down flights of stairs. Stay lightweight and you can be Eco Friendly at the same time!
Eco Nuts® are our brand of soap nuts, which are completely sustainable dried fruit shells that come from the Sapindus mukorossi tree (also called the Soap Berry or Soap Nut Tree) in Nepal, India and Indonesia. The berries we harvest come from high up in the Himalayas and are the highest quality “soap nut” on the market. These fruit shells have been used in India and China for centuries, and are now gaining popularity in America and Europe as a renewable, biodegradable and organic alternative to chemical detergents and expensive “green” laundry soaps.
Eco Nuts contain saponin, a natural cleaner that works as a surfactant, breaking the surface tension of the water to penetrate the fibers of your clothing, lifting stains from the fabric and leaving dirt suspended in the water that is rinsed away.
Eco Nuts are gentle on both clothes and skin, making them ideal for those with sensitive skin, eczema, allergies and psoriasis. Because they are so mild, they are perfect for baby clothes and cloth diapers. All-Natural Eco Nuts are also great for septic and grey water systems. But don’t expect these shells to foam up like commercial soaps, which have artificial foaming agents. Foam simply does not represent cleaning power.
Some nuts may break apart in shipping. Never fear! Because the soap is contained in the shell,
you can use pieces too. Nuts that appear broken still contain soap and work great!
Note: if you are using an HE (front loading) machine or wash primarily on cold, we recommend our Liquid Detergent. Eco Nuts soap nuts will get the job done, but the liquid works better and is specially formulated for HE machines and cold water. -Less

Question:
Hi, I have been looking into trying soapnuts and I was wondering about the number of washes. You say at least 10 washes and most of the other ones I have seen have said 5. What would be different about your? Or are others just being conservative?

Answer: Eco Nuts is a brand name soap nut company. We start with high-quality soap nuts and we have a proprietary sorting process (unique to our company) that sorts by size, thickness and weight to ensure you get more loads than generic soap nuts. Other things that set our company apart is a proprietary handling and sterilization process as the initial harvesting and drying process can be less than sanitary in many situations overseas. We've taken this extra step to ensure customer safety and satisfaction. If you have any problems at all or you do not feel that you are getting the loads we state on the box, please feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to assist you.

Answer: Yes, they are de-seeded and sterilized. The seeds are bad for washing and can cause stains, as I'm sure you know :)

Answer: We have a proprietary sorting and sterilization process that we put our soap nuts through. Each nut is sorted by size, and weight, thickness and a few other factors to ensure you get more loads and have a consistent washing experience. Also, there are over 20 species of soap berries and many of them look alike. We start with genuine Sapindus Mukorossi species which is the best for getting the most loads, though it does also vary by region where they grow as well. I am unfamiliar with the other brand you are comparing us to, but it could be that the other brand is using a different species of nuts (either knowingly or unknowingly) or they are simply stocking inferior nuts that can only be used a couple of times. Ours that is 100 washes for 11.99 is only 5 oz. We also sell a 16 oz version that gets 360 loads.
Being a natural product there can always be some variations, so we guarantee the load amounts. If you feel for whatever reason you did not get your loads, please contact us directly.
We are THE soap nut experts, and we branded our soap nuts Eco Nuts because of all the special things we do for high quality and customer satisfaction, which has made us the #1 top-selling soap nut brand in America.

Question:
Hi, I have read that soap nuts release their saponin content faster in hot water and slower in cold water. Is this true? If so, in what case can I really get 100 loads out of this box - if I do laundry with hot water (and then the number of loads are even higher with cold water),or if I only use cold water (and so the number of loads become less than 100 if I occasionally use hot water)? Thanks

Answer: They work great with cloth diapers! Eco Nuts is sold in over 100 stores that also carry cloth diapers and Eco Nuts is recommended by several CD manufacturers. You can read more about cloth diapers and Eco Nuts here: http://econutssoap.com/soap-nuts-for-cloth-diapers/
We do recommend that if you have an HE machine or hard water that you use our liquid version instead of the nuts for better results.

There was a question about hot vs cold water but I don't really feel like you answered the question. Can I use soap nuts in cold water? I understand they work better in hot but do they work in cold?

Answer: Yes, they do work in cold water, the nuts don't release as much soap (similar to a bag of tea in cold vs hot water). You can use cold with the nuts on normal loads, but if you have a heavily soiled load, warmer temperatures will work better. If you plan on doing mostly cold loads for everything, then our liquid soap berry detergent may be better for you.

Question:
I have a front load washer, which it seems does not clean as well as a top loader. Will Eco Nuts get my laundry clean enough? This is something I have struggled with since buying my machine; I guess I am too picky. Thanks.

Answer: We actually created our liquid detergent specifically for HE machines. The nuts work fine in some HE machines but if you're having a difficult time with your machine already, I would not recommend the nuts because it means your machine is not adding a sufficient amount of water. If you can, tell it to increase the amount of water or add a towel to trick the machine to thinking there is more weight (more clothes) to add more water.
However, I would highly recommend you try our liquid detergent and not the nuts if you are having any problems whatsoever. It's a liquid extract from the nuts and doesn't need as much water to do its job:

Answer: You place 4-5 "nuts" in the wash bag that comes with your box, tie it shut, and place it in your machine with your clothes instead of regular detergent. In your machine they will release a natural soap that cleans your clothes. These can be reused around 10 times. You can check this page for a visual photo and a video showing how they look as you use them: http://econutssoap.com/how-to-tell-when-your-soap-nuts-are-used-up/
As for an HE machine, they are low sudsing so they will work fine in most frontloading or HE machines. We recommend our liquid detergent for HE machines which is simply a concentrated soap extract from the Eco Nuts because some of the front loading machines use too little water to adequately saturate the nuts for them to release enough soap. Most cases they work well, but the liquid version works consistently in all machines. If you purchase the nuts and find that they are not working to your satisfaction in the front loading machine, you can help them to work in your machine simply by soaking the nuts in some hot water (like you're making tea) and after about 5-10 minutes you can add the hot water with the nuts to the machine. This pre-releases the soap so it's not dependent on your machine's water level.

The product or its components can be broken down by natural forces into the simplest possible molecules under commonly found conditions and in a reasonable length of time.
Did you know?
For something to be considered biodegradable it must completely break down and return to nature in a reasonably short time.
The difference between biodegradable and compostable items is that when the latter breaks down it turns into compost, which can provide valuable nutrients to the soil.
Different materials take different periods of time to biodegrade. Paper could take 2 to 5 weeks while plastic might take 5 years. Or even 100 years!
There is now an array of biodegradable plastics on the market, including PLA. But not all bio-based plastics biodegrade.
Just because something is biodegradable doesn’t mean it’s good. Some things that break down are hazardous.

"Smells nice and clothes are clean!" — TameraI have 3 kids who stain their clothes pretty badly and the homemade detergent was NOT cutting it. These have worked great! Clothes have a nice scent and look much cleaner!
-
"Neato!" — Rebekah KristensenI purchased these for myself and although they do their job, and wonderfully....I was hoping for a more clean scent. It gets those smelly smells out but I like a little fresh scent left behind. I am very impressed with their multi-uses. I am sending some to my sister to try out as well!
-
"Removes smells" — Wendy D.I got a samples of the eco nuts because of all of the great reviews I have seen. I use them on a very smelly ( urine soaked ) load of clothes that I let sit on purpose to see if it could remove the smell and it did. Usually I have to treat them and wash more than once, not this time! I will be buying more :)
-
"Pretty good" — Jessica HeckPretty good product.
-
"Easy to use " — Rachel FishbeinI just used this product once this week. My husbands workout clothes came out fresh smelling and clean. The nuts stayed in the bag and no mess.i love the concept! Will be doing more laundry this week with these Eco Nuts. will buy again in the future.
-
"Effective and sustainable product" — Audrey ArketaMy sister bought a sample of another brand of soap nuts but I had forgotten the name when I came here to order. Eco Nuts have large sized soap nuts and I'm still using the first batch if four. My clothes are clean and I need no dryer sheets. I like that I never experienced any hypersensitivity to this product. More (+)To avoid accidentally tossing the little bag in the dryer I put it into a lingerie bag with my lingerie I hang dry. Awesome product I'll take when I relocate. It lasts a long time and I anticipate the medium box will last at least six months. Less (-)
-
"Great concept, weird performance" — Tamar DanielThought this was a charming concept but the reality is a bit messy. Although I used the special bag to contain the nuts- bits of nuts broke out and went all over my clothes- maybe the packaging needs some fine tuning. Nice idea though!
