Black Sheep Heap was born in 2005, after founder, Jen took a three-month trip to India. She always had an interest in environmental issues, so in India she volunteered for a conservation counsel. Upon her arrival, the president of the NGO asked her, What can you do? It was her skill as an artist that he decided would be most useful for the organization. So Jen spent six weeks making botanical drawings and illustrations related to the environmental assets and problems in the region. More (+)
Most of these drawings were for an infomational brochure, but one was for a t-shirt. At some point Jen had an “ah-ha!” moment: she realized she could raise awareness about environmental issues through similar means back in the USA. And so she came home to New York, bought a squeegee, and got started.
