Lapsaky Organics

Our Story

Lapsaky Organics was founded by Laurie Rasch in 2000, with the assistance of her husband Philip, son Kyle (12 at the time), and daughter Sabrina (11 at the time), hence the name LaPSaKy. Having worked in the apparel industry for 20 years as a custom dressmaker, pattern and sample maker, then as a production seamstress for sportswear companies in Colorado, she decided it was time to work on her own product line.

In the process of deciding what type of product line to manufacture, Laurie discovered organic cotton textiles. Organic food was a well known concept at the time, but organic cotton was new and strange to most people. Laurie fell in love with the exciting potential organic textiles offered, and knew that creating a line of organic cotton baby and children's clothing was exactly where her passion lay. Her husband Philip is an atmospheric scientist mainly researching global warming and related issues, so the threat to our environment has been a personal concern for many years for both of them. Making clothing out of organic cotton "seemed only natural".

It was very slow going in the beginning, especially because Laurie chose to focus on color grown organic cotton and consequently had a very unusual color palette for baby and children"s clothing.

She persevered, however, maintaining the desire to create durable, functional, and affordable organic cotton children's clothing, made only in the USA.

Today Lapsaky is one small company among many others producing organic cotton clothing. We still strive for top quality in fabrics, construction and customer service as well as continuing to be a US based manufacturer. Many of our customers have been buying clothing from us since the birth of their first baby, 10 years ago. They have been very pleased that we have expanded our sizes up to teen 18-20!

Our sincere hope is that organic textiles will continue to grow and thrive, and ultimately become as mainstream as clean water and chemical free food.

Getting near the cut off for orders to get out that day and still not ready!
What was the best day in company history?
Our best day was the day we decided to create a line of organic cotton clothing. It was exciting then, and it's still exciting to look for new fabrics and design new products.
What was the biggest decision you ever had to make?
Using a production house to manufacture our product instead of managing it with our home based seamstresses. We currently do both, but gradually are shifting over to using a production house with a larger capacity in one location. We have used Work At Home Moms for 10 years and really believe in the concept.
