The Story of Little Duck Organics
Try picturing a graphic designer, some freeze dried fruit, techno music, and a band of woodland creatures. If your eyes are burning, you’re doing it right. Borne out of a desire to find organic, no-sugar added snacks he’d feel comfortable giving to his children, Zak Normandin dreamed up Little Duck Organics. (First drafts included “Little Honey Badger Organics” and “Little Alpaca Organics. More (+)Interview with Little Duck Organics
What inspires you?
Good design, Great Food, Architecture, Products, Start-ups & People who think beyond what's on the surface.
What is your favorite part about creating your products?
I love packaging design. All of our product concepts/ideas are developed in-house, so we have a lots of flexibility to play around with packaging layouts & prototypes. Additionally, we're in a category that's wide open to fun, innovative products.
It's a great feeling to walk into a grocery store and see a product that you designed in someones cart, in an aisle, or on the shelf.
What is the toughest part of your day?
Right now...finding a good stopping point to close out the day. Things are so crazy right now that I find myself working at the office later than I should.
What was the best day in company history?
Every day is an awesome day. I am lucky enough to be able work with my best friends every day in an industry filled with super-cool companies/people.
What was the biggest decision you ever had to make?
Making the decision to go "all in" with this business (IE. Maxing out all of my credit cards, borrowing $$ from family, etc). We've made many sacrifices to get to the point that we are at right now. I believe in this brand so much that I know it will all work.
Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
In 5 years, our goal as a company is to have national distribution and a full line of organic kids products. I would really love to create jobs/opportunity for our farmers & their families in South America + introduce a local aspect to our product line (I.E. sourcing local ingredients, working with local farms Etc.)
