Our Story

Each stage of life opens doors we may never have known existed. For myself motherhood led me down many roads, one of which was to start Plum Creek Mercantile. Although my background and passion is in veterinary medicine, the day-to-day life of raising three children gave me the creative ideas behind Plum Creek Mercantile. After starting preschool with my oldest and packing daily lunches, it quickly became clear our need to eliminate the overuse of plastic baggies. The idea of snack bags was born and has led to other products that strive to eliminate the use of plastic with a product of quality and longevity.

What inspires you

Inspiration for our products comes from finding a reusable replacement for items we use in our daily lives. The goal is to design products that are unique, yet simple to use while decreasing our impact on the world.

Favorite part about creating your products

The finished product. After the many steps of creating a product, the most exciting part is using our own products and being giddy about how they work and function. I will be the one in the bulk food section with a big smile on my face as I write the bin number on my reusable bag.

Toughest part of your day

Balance. There is always a struggle to find the balance between all aspects of my life that I adore.

Best day in company history

The best days are those that receive recognition of our products by those who use them daily. My constant motivation is the idea that each product we sell helps the world my children will grow up in. Maybe only in a small way, but large changes are only ever made by many small steps.

(And of course the day Oprah Winfrey highlighted a product similar to ours.)

Biggest decision you ever had to make

Life is full of decisions that you often do not realize will be big decisions. The opening of Plum Creek Mercantile began as a small decision and through many more small decisions it has grown into the largest personal endeavor I have begun to date.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years

The only things I know for sure are I will be a mother of teenagers and will continue to be happily married. As far as Plum Creek Mercantile I hope to be continuing this ever-changing, ever-learning, and ever-growing journey.
