There’s a video making the e-mail rounds called The Immortal Burger. Have you seen it? It tells the story of a man who left a fast food burger in his coat pocket and then forgot about it for a year, only to discover that the burger looked the same, had the same consistency, smelled the same, and tasted the same as it did one year prior.

Many of the packaged foods and beverages we consume are equally as indestructible. Invincibility comes with a price, however, in the form of additives, preservatives, artificial coloring and flavoring, industrial toxins and genetically modified ingredients that slowly poison our system. Basically, if it’s not natural, our bodies do not know how to process it naturally. The more artificial and toxic additives, the fewer nutrients remain in the product.
Organic foods and drinks, on the other hand, are minimally processed and carefully monitored to ensure they are toxin-free, with nothing artificial added, and with ingredients certified to be herbicide and pesticide free. Organic food products promote health and well-being, contain greater nutrients and more vitamins and minerals than their standard commercial counterparts, boast fewer allergens, and are generally thought to taste better than conventional food products. At the same time, buying organic food products promotes sustainable farming, decreased pollution, and soil and water conservation. It’s the smart choice and the safe choice. True, organic food products may not hold up for a year in your coat pocket, but then would you really want them to?
